The Immigration Service Hiring Process

In the United States, an applicant must have a bachelor's degree in order to be eligible for employment as an immigration services officer. The degree does not have to be related to immigration, but a relevant major may be beneficial. A master's degree is recommended for positions above the entry-level. To begin the hiring process, you must create an account with USCIS, then wait for a position that meets your qualifications to open up. Then, prepare a resume, detailing your education, training, work experience, and competencies.

If you wish to join the immigration service, it is essential that you speak the language fluently. You will need to communicate with people in other countries as well as with other agency employees. Immigration officers also need to have good communication skills, as they must communicate with immigrant applicants and with colleagues at the agency. Additionally, if you have computer skills, you will have a distinct advantage, as the system is based on computers.
