Myths About Undocumented Immigrants

Many people think that unauthorized immigrants are illegal. But this is not true. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a third of all undocumented immigrants are already U.S. taxpayers. In 2010, these people paid $10.6 billion in taxes. The amount varied by state, but they generally paid 6.4% of their income. This statistic is not surprising, considering the high rates of unemployment and other problems related to immigration.

In fact, undocumented immigrants pay income taxes and sales taxes, as well as other taxes. In fact, they pay more in taxes than they do in services over their lifetime. The biggest windfall comes to the Social Security system from this influx of taxpayer money. The Social Security Administration holds $420 billion in undocumented immigrants' taxes. However, despite the government's efforts to keep track of their tax payments, unauthorized immigrants are an enormous burden on the nation's economy.

First, undocumented immigrants do not take jobs from U.S. citizens. Only 11% of undocumented immigrants work in field jobs that U.S. citizens don't take. This is the same reason that Jaime Puebla's harrowing documentary "The Dream Act" created the image of Central American workers being abused and pushed into sweat shops.

Second, undocumented immigrants are not a burden on the economy. A recent report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated that the average household of illegal immigrants cost taxpayers $14,387 per year. But, contrary to popular belief, the costs aren't all that high. The report also found that the United States government is spending less on health care for undocumented immigrants than on their citizens.

Another myth is that illegal immigrants cause more crime than their legal counterparts. That is simply not true. In fact, immigrants are not a threat to the economy. The reality is that the American public does not consider these individuals to be illegal. In reality, they are just another type of immigrant in the U.S. That is, an undocumented person is an undocumented immigrant.

The most common myth is that undocumented immigrants do not pay taxes. But this is not true. They actually pay more tax than their legal counterparts. The IRS also estimates that unauthorized immigrants pay between $15 billion and $100 billion dollars in taxes every year. But the government would have to absorb the full impact of these costs if they did not contribute to the social security fund.

There are no laws requiring illegal immigrants to have proper documentation. Most illegal immigrants are still citizens of their home country. The Biden administration has made a number of policies that would grant them the right to work in the United States. However, those policies are a sham. Nevertheless, there are ways to address unauthorized immigrant problems. The government can enact immigration laws that help the displaced persons to become permanent residents of the country.
